What a weekend!
The Kununurra 9’s tournament really delivered the goods. The first time the Broome Suns ever stepped on rugby league field.

The boys did extremely well. They travelled to Kununurra with little experience only having 3 guys who had played rugby league in the squad and most only being 17 and 18 years old. We were put in the B division at the start of the weekend to allow our young team to warm into playing the sport. But the boys stepped up and played over and above delivering 2 wins and moving us up into the A grade finals.
We then came up against much more stiffer competition with a 25-13 loss against the cowboys who were the inform team at the time.
We then went in to a 3rd place play off against the Kununurra Eagles. Was a big game ending in a 12 all draw the boys really stepped up in this game and put there bodies on the line, going into OT unfortunately we couldn’t hold on.
Still very proud of the boys effort as I don’t think any one, even our boys, expected us to perform and teach the levels we did.

A big thank you to Kimberly Rugby League and Matt Young for the organisation of the event. It’s getting bigger and better each year, we can not wait to come back again for another crack at your boys.
