2022 Junior Representative – Round 03 Wrap

Well we came out of the unknown COVID bubble and kicked our Junior Rep games back off with a Wednesday Night fixture, where we watched the Southern Pride and the South West Dolphins go head to head in John Moore Shield and Cash Converters Cup. The weather did us a favour and allowed for two good fast games a Thomas Oval, Medina, home of the NRL WA Education and Training Centre.

John Moore Shield
In a very fast pace game, the Southern Pride shot out to an early lead and really took it to their more fancied Dolphin opponents. Leading for most of the first half, they looked like taking a 10-6 lead into halftime with good momentum on their side. But a late try basically on the siren to the South West Dolphins, put them in the lead 12-10 and they never surrendered it from then on. The big pack from the Dolphins was just a little too much to handle in the end, but the Pride showed a plucky resistance and didn’t say did to the final whistle. With a late try to the Dolphins putting the score out to 34-20, the 14 point margin didn’t reflect how close the game was all the way to the final whistle. A great tight affair, both teams will fancy their chances in the their final two fixtures for the year.

Cash Converters Cup
And in the late game, the South West Dolphins defeated the Southern Pride, 26-10. In what onlooker would probably call a big turn around in form, the Pride came into the game missing quite a few players. But in what was still a good tight affair, the Dolphins led 10-4 at half time, and bucking previous trends, kept the momentum in the second half to run out strong winners. For the Pride, outside of missing players, they were quite wasteful with the ball and came up with more than a dozen errors for the game. In the first half completing less than 50%, they had to defend too much, which came back to show in deep in the second half, with the dolphins dominating from dummy half and leading all the running. It was a good hitout for both sides though, with everyone, even the people watching, seeming to be happy just being out side enjoying the rugby league.

We head to back to Thomas Oval this Saturday, the 2nd April, for Round 04 of the junior reps, with games between the Northern Fusion and the South West Dolphins.
