Similar to the schoolgirls the tour is done, and we are back to local rugby league, school rugby league and everything in between. But while on tour the coaching staff did hand out five awards to some individuals who they believe went above and beyond. See below our U15 Schoolboys award winners.

MVP – #8 – Hunter Te Kiri
The big honest hard working front rower from Rockingham was a force to be reckoned with for the U15 Schoolboys. Across the whole week, he continued to run the ball hard, hit hard in defence and be aggressive without giving away penalties or any turnovers. A quiet young man by nature, he asserted himself with his “follow me” attitude, and even when forced to get stitches all he wanted to know from the doctor was “when can I go back on?”. A great player with a big future, he is a deserve MVP.

Best Back – #20/21 – Leilyn Herewini-Kapea
Described as a utility for the side, Leilyn basically was asked to fill whatever role was required. From front row to the halves, he found his niche in the backline by the end and was a star for Isaac and the side. The quietly spoken hit man, Leilyn has a brilliant feel for the game and can see the game unfold before him, which shows when he tends to pop up in defence wherever teams attack. A great team guy who doesn’t shirk the hard stuff.

Best Forward – #9 – Carlijah Hiko-Kita
While he is diminutive in stature, Carlijah showed his true heart on tour. Extremely fit and holding no fear, he constantly led the line speed for the WA Schoolboys, and stood his ground against players much bigger than himself. Topping the tackle counts in games, the nippy hooker also showed great awareness to jump out of dummy half and grab metres when they were on offer. With a nice passing game and the ability to nab a try, Carlijah was one of those team mates you can always rely on.

Most Improved – #17 – Kohbe Dillon
Kohbe was one of those players that became almost pivotal to the team by the end of the tour. His injection in games brought energy and a willingness to go toe to toe with the other teams that was infectious. A firebrand in every sense of the word, Kohbe always lived on the edge, and while discipline sometimes hurt him, he made up for it with endless energy and his ability to always bring the heat for his team on the field.

Coaches Award – #7 – Corey Campbell
Captain Courageous, Corey is as honest a rugby league player you will ever meet. On and off the field, he is always doing the 1% things that make all the difference. Always looking to get the best out of every inch of his small frame, young Campbell never wavered in his quest to help the team in any way he could. A better than average defender for a half, he was tested throughout and never look to shirk his duty, while showing flashes of what makes him a dangerous ball player in WA.
Congratulations not just to our award winners, but all our boys on tour, and we thank each and everyone of you for your efforts!!
