2025 ASSRL Championships – U16 Schoolgirls Award Winners

Well the tour is done, and we are back to local rugby league, school rugby league and everything in between. But while on tour the coaching staff did hand out five awards to some individuals who they believe went above and beyond. See below our U16 Schoolgirls award winners.

MVP – #16 – Angela Nane-Coe

The most valuable player on tour goes to the hurricane from the north. A brilliant ball runner, with great speed and strength, “Angie” was a breath of fresh air for the squad. Super energetic on both sides of the ball, her work rate in defence was nothing short of heroic, as she could constantly be seen making tackle after tackle, cutting peoples legs out from underneath them. Constantly smiling off the field, she is a worthy winner and fit in with the group like a glove.

Best Back – #1 – Kalissa Moon

If a back could be called a “hit-woman” than Kalissa Moon is that. While a great ball runner, with speed and balance, it was her defence which really caught the eye on tour. Constantly standing up at fullback, she was responsible for some of the bell ringers that echoed through the stadium at Townsville Brothers. A great leader, and one of those players who its easy to follow, she tormented players who broke through the front line all weekend.

Best Forward – #16 – Alyssa Ale

Alyssa was the quiet achiever in the group. Never one for the accolades, she stood out in the hard work areas. Kick chase, defensive pressure, hard carries. All the things you don’t really get props for and she did them in spades. Super competitive with a mean streak, she threw herself at opposition players with and without the ball and took almost every single contest personally. A brilliant player and better person, she epitomized the attitude that all the 1% plays matter.

Most Improved – #8 – Jahdae Kiel

With not alot of rugby league experience behind her, Jahdae was thrown into the space of having to be the leader of a bunch of young inexperienced pack of forwards. A physical presence on and off the field, she grew into the role with aplomb. Faster than she looks, her no nonsense and physical style of play really developed over the course of training and the tour, to the point where she was running through defenders for fun on the final day.

Coaches Award – #13 – Promise Iongi

If there was anyone braver than Promise over the course of the week, then they deserve a medal. Ms Iongi went down with an injury on Game 1 which should have basically ruled her out of the tournament. But with the doctor basically saying “if she can handle the pain, its her choice” and Promise adamant she was getting on that field. And boy did she show up. Running amok in defence and making line breaks with the ball, Promise showed the heart of a lion and true character to lead her team mates.

Congratulations not just to our award winners, but all our girls on tour, and we thank each and everyone of you for your efforts!!
