2025 ASSRL Championships – U16 Schoolgirls Wrap

Well the teams are back and we are doing a quite review of the U16 Schoolgirls tour. With 4 games over the week, and alot going on, we will be brief. Review the games, and later on look into the award winners from the tour, and take a peek at who could be the future of these school teams.

In game one, the WA girls were actually quick out of the blocks, and scored two quick tries in succession, to player of the game Angela Nane-Coe and Sienna Hebei. But they fell asleep to close the half and trailed 12-8 after two converted tries to the Northern Territory girls.

But after the restart, it was all WA, with 2 more tries to Nane-Coe to claim the player of the game honours. Hebei got in on the act to complete her double, while Canaan Suifili, Alyssa Ale and Sofia Palu also dotted down on the score sheet to complete a dominant performance to WA to finish the game.

In game two, the girls faced up against NSW CIS, who ended up going down in extra time in the grand final, and it was 8-4 early on after Nane-Coe scored a brilliant solo try. But for the rest of the game it was all NSW, as they put the hammer down and showed superb speed and physicality to be a take the game from start to finish.

But it wasn’t all bleak. Big performances from Kalissa Moon, which earned her man of the match, and Aymilon Fuimaono, particularly in defence, along with the tireless performance from Alyssa Ale who fought from start to finish, were highlights in a tough outing for the girls from WA.

In game three, the girls faced up against the ACT, and it was a ripper of a match. From start to finish the attack and answering defence was top notch from both sides. With joint brilliant performances from Canaan Suifili and Sienna Hebei, Hebei’s two try performance in the first half got WA into the lead at halftime 8-6.

But the second half just didn’t go to plan with a massive injury toll hurting WA’s chances, with no less than 5 ladies coming from the field to not return for the game. And although WA fought hard, ACT scored two crucial tries to take the win.

For the final game, the message was simple from the head coach. We don’t give them anything today. Only doughnuts. And the message was received loud and clear by the girls, with defence being the order of the day. Some brilliant stops from Janelle Vosota and Breanna Maxwell, showed the dog in the fight from our young upstarts as they led from start to finish.

Highlights included a brilliant long distance solo run from Sienna Hebei, while Jahdae Kiel did all the work, beat multiple defenders, passed to Kalissa Moon, got the ball back and got the ball stripped from her 1 metre from the tryline in a heartbreaking finish. But the damage was done by that stage and the WA girls finished the tournament on a high.
