2026 – FTG&P Premiership Round 02 – All Change as Bears beat Titans

By PETER ROWE

Coach Nelson Davis made a number changes for round two of the Fuel to Go and Play Premiership as the Bears rolled on, beating newcomers Kwinana Titans 82-6 in a one-sided game.

The Bears notched up 15 tries in the game with a hat-trick from second rower Phil Sawalu the highlight.

“I made five changes to the team that beat Freo and I am very happy with what I saw,” Davis said.

Captain Kainoa Gudgeon was one missing, becoming a father in the week, welcoming a new son to his family.

“We also had a couple of HIA’s from last week, Izzy our fullback was one, so I had to shuffle my lineup.”

Fullback Te Auturoa Awhitu-Kerei, winger Manfred Kelly (2), Tommy Fifita-Tovo (2) , Saimoni Qaranivalu, Brent Crisp, Matt Lansdown, Emmanual Maliko, Malakai Chan Boon, iverson Mapu-Satiu and lock Rangi Thompson were the other scorers on a day that showed just how much depth this team has.

The first half did see some errors that Davis said he corrected at the break with the Bears leading 32-6.

Several errors and incomplete sets left the coach with plenty to say to his team in the sheds.

“We were trying to force things too much,” he said.

“I told them to stay in the system and it will come. It did.

“The second half was much better.”

Davis had some kindword to say of his opponents on what would have been a tough day for them.

“Be patient, It will come good,” was his advice.

“They never gave up  and showed plenty of heart and they will lower from that.

“I know coach Lewis Samuels well. He’s a good guy. As long as they are learning every week they will have a chance.”

Sawalu was the game’s MVP, edging out Malakai Chan Boon and Matt Lansdown.

“Matty did a great job alongside Brent Crisp.”
