Fremantle coach Duane Butler said respect was due to the Kwinana Titans after the Roosters had scored 100 points in their Fuel to Go and Pay Premiership game at Treeby Oval on Sunday afternoon.
“You have to feel for them and respect is due because they had nine players backing up from Val Murphy for the game,” Butler said.
“They could have forfeited their reserves game but they didn’t and that is all credit to them and to Lewis (Samuels) their coach.
“And they didn’t give up either, kept battling and tackling until the end.”
Butler lost count of the number of tries scored, but said it was “well over 20”.
Several players scored hat-tricks, centre Ryan Woolley continued his recent good run of form to score three, hooker Jahkayis Mabbett was another to hit the whitewash three times, and so was winger Manson Carmody.
Several players scored doubles: Austin Cameron, Delane Edwards, Owen Gallagher (on debut), Mitch Kerr, Ezra Taomia, TJ Morunga and Eli Beattie.
“We just stuck to structured rugby, running through holes and playing to our strengths,” Butler said.
“In the past we have often taken our foot off the pedal, but we kept playing and the scores kept coming. No circus or basketball stuff, just good rugby.
“We had a few missing, Gethin Thomas and Jules Wilson Wyllie, so we were a bit light in the middles, but our completion rate was good and it augurs well as we close in on finals.”
The Roosters had a 75% completion rate in the first half and when the rain came only dropped the ball once.
“A good workout and like I said, fair play to Kwinana for giving us a game.”
