DAY 3

The Senior men’s needed to win both halves on footy against NT to secure their 5th consecutive title. It was a tight contest in the first half with WA spilling some missed opportunities. They managed to hold onto a 12 – 6 lead. However after the break the boys form the west proved why they are the best as they outclassed NT and ran away with an outstanding 40 -10 win, prompting the celebrations for the 5th consecutive year for Justin ‘Barney’ Nixon and his team. Coach Nixon also declaring the 5th consecutive win his final year as WA’s head Coach.

After NT shocked VIC in the U18’s on Day 2, it came down to the final match between WA and VIC to decide who would be taking home the title. The VIC’s got away to a flying start while WA’s passes just couldn’t stick, the went into the break 22 – 6 down. Half Time speech from coach Jamie Papa revved up his troops who came out firing, they got to 26 -16 with 10min left on the clock and the momentum in their favour. Although this was halted by a VIC try to put the game out of reach, WA did cross again leaving the final score VIC 32 WA 20.

The decider between WA and VIC in the Women’s proved to be cracker. With WA looking to defend their 2013 shield, they managed to put first points on the board and held onto a 4 – 0 lead. it wasn’t until within the last 5min of the match that VIC snatched a try out wide and slotted the goal to be up by 2. The WA ladies fought hard to get back in front however they ran out of time, this was a great effort by Coach Damien Tahere and the girls from the West Coast will be back next year to try and take back the title.

The WA Rugby League would like to thank all coaching staff and officials as well as each and every player for their hard work and commitment over the weekend.
