Rugby League plays an important role in our communities and has a strong representation across all levels of our game throughout all of Australia. Across the whole game we have players who identify their country of birth (or that of parents or grandparents) in in over 144 different countries.

The 2019 NRL WA In League In Harmony Camp will provide opportunities for youth to develop social skills and essential Rugby League playing skills, and will be empowered to acknowledge, appreciate and celebrate the diversity among their peers and the wider community.

Important to note that there is no tackling in the program, we employ modified League Tag and NRL Touch Football.

The In League In Harmony program’s delivery method is a non-formal educational approach, using Rugby League skills sessions tailored for both those new to the game and the experienced, to not only teach participants the fundamental skills of Rugby League but also promote key messages such as:

Inclusion and Positive Communication

Teamwork and Leadership

Courage and Respect

The Camp will consist of various Social Cohesion Workshops and Rugby League Skills Training Sessions that aim to tackle issues such as racism, gender inequality, bullying and more.

The Camp will then finish with the celebratory In League In Harmony “Unite Gala Day” at Gloucester Park to celebrate the newly – acquired knowledge and skills participants have gained from the 2019 NRL WA In League In Harmony Camp.

Certain participants that showcase positive attitudes and leadership qualities throughout the camp will also be given the opportunity to be in the NRLWA’s Youth Advocate Program, a program that empowers youth to create a positive impact in their communities. These certain individuals will be involved in supporting the delivery of the NRL WA’s 2019 Harmony Cup in December.

Four years ago, Jordan Pereira was playing in the WA Smarter Than Smoking Premiership for the Willagee Bears.

Those days are now a distant memory for the 25-year-old after he penned a two-year NRL contract with the St George Illawarra Dragons this week.

After making his NRL debut in Round 19 of this year, the winger was an ever-present figure for the Dragons, scoring three tries in nine appearances to earn himself a contract renewal.

The New Zealand-born speedster averaged 132 metres per game and looks set to fill the void left by the retiring Jason Nightingale.

“Five years ago, I was playing park footy. Now I have to pinch myself considering I’m playing with the likes of Jack de Belin, Tyson Frizell, Ben Hunt and Gareth Widdop. It’s definitely a blessing,” Pereira said.

“I’m very happy to be running around in first grade now and it’s definitely something I don’t want to give up. I’m very proud to be representing this club and hopefully, there’s more NRL games to come.”

From all of us here at NRL WA, we would like to congratulate Jordan on his new contract and wish him the best for the 2019 and 2020 NRL seasons.
