Junior rugby league is about participation and having fun.

Last Sunday, the Dalyellup Rhinos ticked all those boxes when they hosted the Willagee Bears, Ellenbrook Rabbitohs, Australind Cowboys and Kwinana Wolves for a Gala Day at Ferndale Park.

Dalyellup President and Coach Scott Smith said the Gala was a great opportunity to showcase the game in the South West.

“It’s to expose rugby league and the talent within Bunbury,” he said.

“Usually in the South West there is only the Dalyellup Rhinos and Australind Cowboys, so it’s good for the kids to see the other teams coming down from Perth.”

Smith thanked the Bears, Rabbitohs and Wolves for volunteering to bring players aged 6-16 years down from Perth for the Gala.

“They are more than willing to come down,” he said.

Above all, the Gala allowed the Rhinos players to test themselves against Perth-based players.

“The day gives the kids some exposure to competition and different competitors,” Smith said.

A big thank you to the Rhinos for hosting the Gala, and we hope to see you hosting more competitions in 2019 and beyond.
