After finishing second in the 2018 Combined Affiliated States Championships, WA has been rewarded with five players selected to the CAS side for the Australian Secondary Schools Championships.

Ollie Callan, Will Smith, Aidan Carstairs, Jaylen Grey and Kristian Williams were instrumental in WA earning first-up victories over Northern Territory (16-14) and South Australia (66-0) to earn further representative honours.

For fullback Smith, making the CAS side was an extra special moment after overcoming recent injury struggles.

“For the past couple years I’ve had a couple of injury issues, so this is actually my first year playing alongside these boys for WA,” he said.

“Coming away and making the CAS side with them is a massive achievement and I can’t wait to go in camp with them.”

Halfback Gray, who claimed Man of the Match honours in WA’s second game against South Australia says he can’t wait to play alongside his state teammates for the CAS side.

“It’s been good, I’ll be happy to play alongside these boys again,” he said.

The CAS side will play in Pool B alongside the Australian Capital Territory and a NSW Combined Independent Schools side, with all of the games to be played at Cudgen Leagues Club between July 15-20.
