Four Winds Maori Tournament kicks off tomorrow

The annual 2013 Four Winds Maori Tournament will be held at George Burnett Park tomorrow, the 5th October.

Not only is the tournament a great exhibition of Rugby League but it’s a great cultural event that kicks off with the traditional Powhiri welcoming at 9am before the games kick off at 10am.

The tournament showcases the best in maori talent from the North (Te Tai Raki), South (Te Tai Tonga), East (Hau O Te Puke) and Western (Te Hauauru) clubs of the WA Rugby League competition.

Five dollars gets you entry to the tournament, with some of the talent on display including 2013 Ken Allen Medallist Rhys Peakman (Willagee Bears) and Rising Star Award winner Keelyn Tuuta-Edwards (Rockingham Sharks).

The top two sides after a round robin face off against each other in a final, with the third and fourth places teams playing off in a separate third place playoff.

The WA Maori contingent was well represented in this year’s WARL season with fourteen representative players involved in senior grand finals this year.
