In only its fourth year the Kimberley Rugby League Association picked up the ‘Club of the Year award at the East Kimberley Sports Awards on October 31st. A total of six awards were given on the night with the KRL having three finalists in various categories. Aside from the club nomination Association President Matt Young and Referee Dallas Anderson were also finalists in their respective categories of Volunteer and Official of the year.
The selection committee were particularly impressed with the KRL’s efforts to spread the sport of Rugby League across the Kimberley with its representative team the East Kimberley Eagles and the Kimberley Crocs initiative that is looking to promote games between the Kimberley and Pilbara regions of WA.
Ex West Coast Eagles and Channel 7 presenter Adrian Barich was the speaker for the night and entertained the crowd with anecdotes from his sporting past, in particular his transition from Aussie Rules to Rugby League when he joined the Western Reds in 1995.
