As we reflect on another remarkable year at Alkimos Tigers Rugby Club, we are proud of the strides we’ve made both on and off the field. 2024 has been a year of growth, community engagement, and extraordinary achievements. Here’s a look back at some of the highlights:
Community Engagement & Events
Our commitment to the local community has been stronger than ever. In 2024, we had the privilege of attending Waitangi Day, where we proudly showcased our club while supporting our Maori community. It was a day of cultural celebration and connection, and we’re grateful to have participated in such an important event.
We also had the honor of participating in the Yanchep Secondary College Open Day, where we introduced students and their families to the values of rugby and the opportunities within our club. These events not only help grow the sport but strengthen the bonds we share with our community.
Expansion & Growth
2024 has been a milestone year for the Alkimos Tigers, especially in terms of participation. We saw the highest ever Junior Registrations, with a notable increase in female participation, a trend we are incredibly proud of. Our Junior Divisions have expanded significantly, with the addition of two new teams. In 2023, we fielded 2 U13 teams, but this year we proudly brought on 4 teams:
- U13 Boys
- U14 Boys
- U14 Girls
- Girls League Tag (GLT)
This expansion reflects the growing interest in rugby and our commitment to providing opportunities for all players, regardless of gender or skill level.
Construction of New Clubrooms
A major development this year is the commencement of construction on our new clubrooms. This exciting project will provide our players, families, and supporters with a modern and functional space to gather, celebrate, and enjoy everything that makes Alkimos Tigers Rugby Club special. The new facilities will include updated change rooms, social spaces, and amenities that will enhance the club experience for everyone involved. We are looking forward to seeing this project come to life in the coming months!

Perth Under 12s Gala Day
Our juniors had an outstanding experience at the Perth Under 12 Gala Day held at Willagee, where we played some amazing games, showcasing our team’s talent and sportsmanship. The event was a great opportunity for our young players to test their skills against other clubs and build lasting friendships.

Special Moments for U7s
Our U7 players had a truly unforgettable experience when they played a pre-game match at the NRL clash between the Roosters and Dolphins at HBF Park. It was a fantastic opportunity to showcase their talents on a larger stage, with our female players also joining the players’ run onto the field—a moment they will treasure forever.
Junior Competition Highlights
Our junior teams continue to impress on the field. Notable achievements this year include:
– U14 Boys: Runner-up champions.
– U14 Girls: Reached the semi-finals in both Tag and Tackle League—an incredible achievement for our growing girls’ rugby programs.

Sponsorships & Grants
We are extremely grateful for the ongoing support from our local businesses, which helped us secure 12 club sponsorships. This support enabled us to purchase new jerseys and training equipment for the entire club. Additionally, we received a generous grant from the City of Wanneroo to subsidise junior ground fees, making rugby more accessible to all families.
Our Girls League Tag team was also fortunate to receive a Rio Tinto Community Grant, supporting their continued growth and success.
Award Recognition
We are thrilled to announce the well-deserved recognition of two of our outstanding club members at the annual Ken Allen Awards Night:
– Jhai Kapea was awarded the NRL WA Male Volunteer of the Year, for his tireless dedication to the club and the community.
– Davey Martin was named NRL WA Val Murphy Player of the Year, a testament to his incredible talent, leadership, and commitment on the field.
Looking Ahead
As we look ahead to 2025, we are filled with excitement for the future. We remain focused on our mission to grow the game of rugby, foster a positive environment for all players, and continue to be a proud and supportive community hub. With the new clubrooms under construction and the continued growth of our teams, the Alkimos Tigers are on a path to even greater success in the years ahead.
Thank you to all of our players, families, coaches, volunteers, sponsors, and supporters for making this year one to remember.
