Round 14 Preview

WARL Journalist Justin Fris has provided his preview on the upcoming Round 14 matches in the Smarter Than Smoking First Grade Premiership.

Joondalup v Willagee – Admiral Park 3.30pm

Kalamunda v South Perth – Pioneer Park 3.30pm

North Beach v Rockingham – Charles Riley Reserve 3.30pm

Both Joondalup and Willagee will go to extreme lengths to pocket a win on Saturday at Admiral Park.

The Giants were nothing short of awesome last Saturday, scoring four tries in the opening 10 minutes of the second half, burying South Perth in their wake.

But as has been the story all season, this Giants team has struggled to replicate this form from week to week.

Bears fans would have enjoyed their win last week, but are acutely aware that a loss here would dent finals aspirations.

Expect both sides to burn the flanks and give all spectators a traditional afternoon of smashmouth rugby league.

South Perth were jolted last Saturday against Joondalup, but expect them to bounce back convincingly against Kalamunda.

‘Barney’ Nixon’s men were blown away by the Giants in the second half, but their attitude for the contest didn’t.

The Lions should surge early and cripple the Bulldogs’ defensive line through creative cutout passing.

Last week’s 58-8 pounding by Fremantle was easily the most painful afternoon Bulldogs faithful have had to sit through this season.

Hopefully their boys look deep within themselves and reward the fans with a competitive display.

With a three point cushion over the chasing pack, North Beach can relax a little more ahead of their contest against Rockingham on Saturday.

Positive form and South Perth’s loss would deeply satisfy the men from Charles Riley Reserve.

Rockingham’s loss to Willagee last week was extremely untimely.

In order to make finals, the Sharks will have to win almost all of their matches and hope others above falter.

Expect Beach to turn on the style for their loyal fans and win easily.
