NRL WA would like to congratulate Michael Sims, who will referee his 200th WARL/NRL WA First Grade game this weekend.

Having taken up refereeing at the tender age of 13, Sims will bring up his milestone game on Saturday as the Fremantle Roosters host the Joondalup Giants at Ken Allen Field.

Since making his First Grade debut on August 12, 2006, Sims has been in charge of seven ANZAC Challenge fixtures (2008-2013), two seasons worth of SG Ball (2010, 2013) and even got the opportunity to officiate a Jillaroos v France Women’s Test Match in 2008.

His proudest achievement, however, is overseeing 11 consecutive First Grade Grand Finals between 2007-2017.

“Ultimately it’s got to be the Grand Finals – I’ve done 11 of them, so that’s probably my great achievement,” Sims said.

Sims is also a 2 x Ron Hudson Medal winner (2009, 2016) – awarded to the NRL WA’s top performing referee and was appointed a Life Member of the Referees’ Association in 2018 having served as Treasurer (2006-2009) and Vice-President (2013-2014 & 2016-2017).

From all of us here at NRL WA, we would like to thank Michael for his great service to our game over the years and congratulate him on reaching this milestone game.
