It is with my deepest regret and sadness that I write to advise you of the passing of Steve Calder.
Many of you would have known of Steve in some way.
Until recently, Steve served as the Men of League State Manager. Prior to this role he was our first Queensland Chairman in 2004. Steve’s dedication, passion for our game and caring heart made him the natural leader and perfect fit for the Men of League in Queensland.
Steve was a great servant of our game with a lifelong connection to rugby league.
His first grade career as a player began at the age of 17 in Narromine. He would go on to play for Canterbury Bankstown in Sydney, Norths in Brisbane, Hull in England and Captain-Coach Corrimal in the Illawarra. Steve would also go onto coaching duties with the Illawarra Steelers and Brisbane Broncos.
We will be forever grateful to Steve for his service to our game, his love for our community and his commitment to our success.
Steve’s values embody who we are as an organisation.
Steve was simply a lovely man who will be long and dearly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Our thoughts are with his wife Sue and their four children at this time.
Rest in Peace Steve.
