WARL WELCOMES LYNETTE McGIVERN TO BOARD

Coinciding with the National Rugby League’s Women in League celebrations this week, the Western Australian Rugby League is pleased to welcome Lynette McGivern to the WARL Board. Ms McGivern is the first female to be appointed as a Board member, and brings with her a wealth of experience and knowledge.

Ms McGivern has a proud family history within the WA Rugby League community and has been involved with grassroots Rugby League her entire life, through the Fremantle Roosters Rugby League Club.

Having left a career in education to complete her Articles in Commercial Litigation she returned to her passion – education – and is currently employed at Wesley College in South Perth as Head of Learning Area – Society and Environment, as well as Assistant to the Headmaster for Strategic Projects.

Ms McGivern is also studying a Master of Educational Leadership from University of Western Australia, having already obtained a Bachelor of Laws, Graduate Diploma of Education and a Bachelor of Arts (History & Politics) from University of Notre Dame in Fremantle. In addition to this, she is involved in a number of community and professional organisations, most notably as Deputy Chairperson of Starick Services, a not for profit agency concerned with the prevention and education of those in the community impacted on by domestic violence.

“I am looking forward to continuing the good work already being done by the WARL staff and Board. I hope my background in community development and education can assist in further growing the greatest game of all in Western Australia,” Ms McGivern said.

“I am passionate about Rugby League and I hope that I can use my skills and genuine interest in the game to get others in the community on board for what will be both exciting and challenging times ahead.”

Chairman Richard Campbell believes the addition is a good balance for the Board.

“Lynette will be able to provide an edge for the Board that we have not had before, and with her strategic approach, I know she will fit in well with the exciting developments we have before us,” he said.
